We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark, the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.
We find darkness to be synonymous with what we do not know. Ironically how children are afraid of the dark at first, and then most of them, of the light. HUman nature makes the innocent child open himself to new things and experiences. When the mind is still pure, we run away from ignorance. Once we’ve eaten the apple of knowledge, the mind opens . But the heart is poisoned, so most men choose to spit what they have in their mouth and ignore the delicios apples for eternity. Knowledge is a heavy burden, but it represenst the only way out of the ignorance cave.
There are those who are not able to understand. These should be envied for their blessed ignorance. And then, there are those who can understand and have the means to achieve knowledge, but choose not to. The light of knowledge scares them. So they choose to be ignorants. These people should be pitied. Because they live their lives in a constant run-away from themselves. Burried in superficial details, drowned in continuous flows of information, lost in labyrinths of apparent logic. Instead of embracing their nature, instead of allowing the light of truth to burn their souls and give meaning to their short existence, they turn the tool of freedom into an instrument that allows them to waste this precious life.
How can one choose to live in blindness?
It is indeed, a tragedy.
